Let the Sun Shine on Us
A short story about a man taking a meditative break under the hot sun in the middle of the day.
Taking a break
Taking a long break, the man sat in the midst of large bushes hiding him from anyone who may pass by. He sat in warm dirt and felt the hot sun shine down on his face and body while he closed his eyes behind his sunglasses and took some deep breaths.
He was at work, yet he was his own supervisor. At times he would take the liberty to take a long break in the sandy dirt to commune with God under the sun during the hot summer days.
He would sit there as long as was needed to regain the meditative state required to feel the peace of God within his soul. Putting down the mp3 player, keeping his phone in its holster, and allowing his sober mind to drift like a plant chasing the sun for nourishment.
The routine of life and the cares it tempted him to contemplate were on pause while he enjoyed the stillness of time and the isolated area he found peace within. The wind was always blowing hard enough to cancel out any sounds from afar that might distract his repose and quicken him back to his usual routine.
With temperatures near 100 degrees Fahrenheit, he was glad to have his familiar safari hat on to provide him shade in addition to his ever-present sunglasses.
