No referral program and writing for publications on Medium

Interesting changes to Medium the last few months. Getting rid of the referral program, creating this Friends of Medium program, and then the intricacies of the boost and monetization program.

Overall, it sounds like the Medium leadership is being responsive to improving the platform and I can’t really argue with how they are doing it. The referral program was a good incentive, yet it didn’t work very well for most of us. It was hard to get people to sign up and stay signed up. In the meantime, after every story there was this call to action, including mine.

My one referral is my wife, which will continue on with the grandfather system. I like that only those who are members can participate in the partner program, that makes sense to me.

They are also getting rid of the 100 follower requirement to apply for the partner program, as well as adding 9 more countries to the program. Both good moves as far as I’m concerned.

I’ve noticed a drop in engagement for the last two months. Not sure if this means I’m running under the radar of the new algorythms or I’m just not engaging myself enough, maybe both.
