The Writing Doldrums
When your strategy begins to unravel.
It makes sense to write for a certain niche so readers know what to expect with new articles. Nevertheless, niche writing can also hem writers in and not allow their creativity to expand.
Figuring out a writing strategy helps writers feel like their words and efforts are being maximized or at least they don’t have to constantly think about what they are doing with each article.
Even with good strategies, writers will have bad days when nothing seems to go right. Maybe it is the rising expectations they have with a modicum of success along the way or maybe it is just a plain downward trend to oblivion.
It would seem that meeting or exceeding expectations would satisfy the writer and make them content, which it may do for a time, yet, eventually, the human mind takes these high points for granted and starts setting higher expectations.
At a certain point, what could be called the writing doldrums begin and the writer starts having a difficult time becoming motivated like before.
This phase of the writing journey makes the difference. Will the writer slow down and let the downward trend continue to define their path, or will they revamp their strategy and dig into their creative will to find a way to break through the doldrums?
