Your right Laurence, fiction stories don't really do well anywhere compared to interesting non-fiction pieces, how to, or review, etc. My best article by far on HP is a review about a weed eater. The fiction on HP does get views here and there, a trickle of money coming in fractions of pennies, which is wonderful if you just consider getting paid for writing at all.
